Killaloe Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes June 2017

19511617_235668036950076_4724214976775032870_nPilgrims from all over the Diocese of Killaloe returned to Shannon on Saturday evening 1st July in three separate planes after spending five days at the Marian shrine of Lourdes on the 61st Killaloe Diocesan Pilgrimage. This was Bishop Fintan Monahan’s first pilgrimage as our Bishop and he led the pilgrims in the opening Mass and at the Mass celebrated at the Grotto on the feast of SS. Peter & Paul. The assisted pilgrims were cared for by a team of medical and caring professionals, including 24 year old Aoife Murray from Sixmilebridge who is the current Rose of Clare preparing to represent our County in this year’s Rose of Tralee.

Aoife first travelled to Lourdes nine years ago on the Youth section of the pilgrimage and always promised to return one day as a volunteer helper which she did this year. Aoife had the honour of lighting the pilgrimage candle which was blessed by Bishop Fintan on the last evening. 48 young people came from all over the Diocese to help assisted pilgrims. The Autumn Pilgrimage to Lourdes will leave Shannon airport on Sunday 1st October for 5 days.

Our thanks to Photo Lacaze, Bishop Fintan, Tracy Murray and Fr. Tom for photos. More photos are to be found on the Killaloe Diocesan Facebook and Twitter accounts.
