As dawn broke on December 12th 2007, the Feast of St. Finian, one of the Patron Saints of our Parish, the words of St. Matthew’s Gospel: “Well done, Good and faithful Servant” were words that have been heard by Tom Moore, since he left the world to go to the House of the Father.
Tom and his late wife Anne, first come to live in Shannon in 1963 and from the very beginning immersed themselves in to the life of the town and the new Parish that had been formed. 163 Finian Park became home to the Moore family and it was at home that Tom died very peacefully in the company of his family. A man of very sincere and genuine faith, Tom as a believer, believed and tried to live Gospel. He did so, first as a husband and father and in later years as a grandfather. Outside of his home, he took a very active part in community and parish life. He did so in very active way. As a member of Legion of Mary, he shared his faith and belief with others, whether it was here in Shannon or P.P.C. in Britain. As a founding member of the Shannon Senior Citizen’s Club, he helped create a very vibrant organization that thrives today, as a community person, he gave his all to supporting neighbourhood associations, youth club, community employment schemes.
However, Tom and Anne will be best known and remembered as Sacristans of SS John & Paul Church. It was here that they both gave of their very best, so that others could come and pray together, celebrate the Eucharist, light a candle, meet others, find consolation, rejoice and celebrate. In their care of SS John & Paul Church, Tom and Anne have been ably assisted by their children and grandchildren. Their commitment has been all year round and whether the occasion was the Sunday Eucharist, a wedding or funeral, Tom & Anne and the Moore family made the occasion special by their attention to detail and great love of God.
Tom’s death, coming two years and one week after Anne’s death leaves a great void, not only with their family, but also with our Parish community. We offer our deepest sympathy and gratitude to Edel, John, Gwen, Mary, Brian, Theresa, Sharon and Deirdre and their families. We thank you for the privilege of sharing both your Mam & Dad, Anne and Tom, with all of us.
