An important milestone in the history of Shannon took place on the Sunday 9th October when the newly ordained Bishop of Killaloe, Bishop Fintan Monahan, on his first visit to the Parish since his ordination on 25th September, celebrated the 11am Mass in Mary Immaculate Church. It was 50 years to the weekend when the Church was first blessed and dedicated. In its fifty years of service to the community, two priests have been ordained in the Church,Pat Byrne SVD from De Lacey Park and Fergal O’Neill, Ballycaseymore Hill. Both Fr Pat & Fr Fergal joined the priests of the parish, Fr Tom, Canon Brendan and Fr Arnold in celebrating the Mass of Thanksgiving with Bishop Fintan. As part of the celebrations in this Year of Mercy and the Golden Jubilee of the Church, the Room of Mercy, Seomra na Trócaire, was officially blessed and dedicated by Bishop Fintan. This Room of Mercy, Seomra na Trócaire, will facilitate the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Our thanks to Seamus O’Donoghue & Fr. Tom for the photos.
