Bishop Fintan Monahan and Bishop Willie Walsh joined the priests of Newmarket-on-Fergus and Shannon, who are Chaplains in Carrigoran House, for a Concelebrated Mass in Carrigoran on Saturday 25th March, the Feast of The Annunciation. The Mass was offered in thanksgiving for the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Sisters in Texas in 1856. Their presence in Carrigoran dates back to 1925 when the Sisters opened their first and only Convent in Ireland at St. Michael’s Convent in Carrigoran. In 1943, during the Second World War, a novitiate was established at the Convent. In 1973, a homeless woman from Shannon knocked on the Sisters’ door in Carrigoran looking for care. This led the Sisters to open what we know today as Carrigoran House in 1974, catering for the needs of the elderly and those who require respite and short term care. In 2013, the Health and Wellness Centre was opened and is used by Shannon Parishioners every Tuesday. After Mass Bishop Fintan planed a tree in the grounds to mark this special occasion.
