Holy Week began in Shannon with the Blessing of Palm at all Masses. The last Mass of the day was the Funeral Mass for the late Lily Corr. Lily cared for many years for priests in Shannon as housekeeper to both Fr J. Minogue and Canon Brendan. Many priests who served in the parish during her term as housekeeper concelebrated her Funeral Mass in SS John & Paul Church. Parishioners gathered on Good Friday to recall the Passion of Christ. On Good Friday night Dramatic stations of the Cross capturing the final hours in Christ’s life were prayed in music and drama in SS. John & Paul Church. The Solemn Celebration of the Easter Vigil took place in Mary Immaculate Church on Saturday night. Parishioners wrapped themselves up well as they gathered on a cold and windy morning in Illaunmanagh Cemetery for our annual Dawn Mass on Easter Sunday at 6am. The Folk group provided the music for the Mass and young and not so young were treated to an Easter egg as they left the Cemetery, some to return to bed others to enjoy a healthy Easter Breakfast.
